Best Medium Budget Trips: Brook's Camp
This is the second best place to see grizzly bears fishing. (The best is McNeil River preserve but it requires winning a permit lottery.) Thourgh Brooks can be a bit crowded, you don't notice the people so much because well, there are bears everywhere. This is fly-in only but there are packages available to this popular destination. You can also camp at the nearby Valley of 10,000 Smokes (yes, that's the real name) - we haven't done it but this is a desolate, former volcano area only discovered in the 1930's. Once there you can stay either in a fenced camp ground or in a government run lodge. Neither are that great but who cares – there are bears everywhere!
